HANDS- Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)

Prevalence

Prevalence Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that occurs on the wrist, especially common to see in people working in the office or the person who repetitively using their wrist.


Location

There's a major nerve travels through the wrist, called the median nerve that connect to the finger.

Cause

This condition occurs when keep squeezing or compressing the major nerve on the median nerve. Anything that can make carpal tunnel smaller will cause the carpal tunnel syndrome.


High-Risk Groups

The person who use wrist repetitively, such as mechanic, carpenter, housewife.etc. Or the person who compress their wrist for a long period, such as using the mouse too much.


Symptoms

The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome may include numbness, burning, pain-common seen in the thumb and index, middle, and ring fingers.


Do's

First of all, change the activity that will worsen symptoms and rest. Can also use splint or braces to keep the wrist in a natural angle to have an efficient recovery.


Don’t's 

Avoid doing the repetitive activities to deteriorate the situation or having a pressure around the wrist area.
